1. God of War: Laufey is the next mainline God of War game

Rumors have been floating around the internet of a possible Faye-focused spin-off game in the God of War universe, but Santa Monica Studio surprised everyone with God of War: Laufey, confirmed to be the next mainline title after God of War: Ragnarok. In the 20-minute gameplay reveal, we got our first look at life after death for Faye, and her journey through the afterlife, or as they call it, the Everywhen.
Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, reprising her role from God of War: Ragnarok, while newcomers like Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau join the fray as Phranque and Rue, respectively. The showcase featured new Gods of War from different mythologies, along with Faye fighting through the afterlife to return to Kratos and Atreus. This was undoubtedly the biggest and most exciting reveal from the showcase.
2. Marvel’s Wolverine gets a bloody extended gameplay trailer

Insomniac Games kicked off this year’s State of Play with an extended look at Marvel’s Wolverine, releasing exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles on September 15, 2026. The trailer featured our first look at popular X-Men characters like Jean Grey, Sabretooth, the Sentinels, Leech, and many more. In the mission showcased, Wolverine and Jean Grey try to save mutants being kidnapped by the Reavers.
The standout of the presentation was Logan’s incredibly brutal and fluid combat, teaming up with Jean Grey to deliver bone-breaking finishers, a convoy-chase setpiece, and a sizzle reel that gave us snippets into what Marvel’s Wolverine’s story will offer.
3. Green Goblin, Carnage, and Magneto join Doctor Doom in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

The roster for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls keeps growing, with the newest additions being Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage, joining the Knights of Doom spearheaded by Doctor Doom himself. Along with featuring gameplay for the three characters, Arc System Works also revealed their parts in the game’s Episode Mode, and a new battle stage: the Night version of Marvel’s New York.
Magneto plays like a zoner, hurling debris and metal objects all around the battlefield and taking control of the fight, while Green Goblin uses his projectile weapons, Razor Bats and Pumpkin Bombs, to deliver aerial assault at high-speed movement. Lastly, Carnage approaches his enemies up close, turning his arms into bladed weapons and tendrils to tear through the enemy’s health.
4. Firesprite reveals a terrifying trailer for Until Dawn 2

One of the most surprising reveals of this month’s State of Play was Until Dawn 2, being developed by Firesprite Games. While it’s a sequel to the original, the narrative is completely standalone, featuring a fresh cast of ghost hunters exploring an abandoned tropical island for their TV-network-funded episodes. But things quickly take a dark turn when they realise that not all the horrors are staged.
The iconic choice-based gameplay returns, featuring even more distressing decisions with horrific outcomes. Despite being a standalone sequel, Dr. Hill from the first game returns, played once again by the brilliant Peter Stormare. Until Dawn is confirmed to launch next year for PS5, and more updates will be announced as we inch closer towards release.
5. Ace Combat returns this year with Wings of Theve

The iconic aerial dogfight series returns this October with Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, an explosive new instalment in the long-running franchise. The campaign features everything fans love about the series, be it high-octane aerial dogfights or cinematic missions. The time to earn your wings is getting closer, as Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will feature the largest Online mode yet in the series.
With a breathtaking campaign and an enhanced multiplayer experience confirmed for launch, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theves was one of the standout reveals from PlayStation’s June 2026 State of Play. Prepare to soar the skies this October 2nd and engage in thrilling “air-to-air” combat as you experience the next chapter in the legendary flight-action series.
