Last week, reports broke out claiming that Clint Eastwood was stepping away from the world of showbiz after a celebrated career spanning eight decades. The speculation stemmed from comments made by his son, Kyle Eastwood, a jazz musician himself who has contributed to the music of several Eastwood movies, during a concert in Amiens, France, shortly after the Unforgiven star’s 96th birthday (via France 3).

I have many fond memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95 years old. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me.

Interestingly, his other son, Scott Eastwood, who recently unveiled his upcoming WWII thriller, Lucky Strike, has since weighed in on the subject, revealing that he has not heard any news regarding his father’s potential retirement.

When posed with the question regarding his father’s current status in the realm of showbiz after his brother seemingly confirmed Eastwood’s retirement at 96, The Longest Ride star added that he hasn’t heard anything about the Oscar winner giving up his boots at all. He further went on to commend Eastwood’s stature and legacy, both on and off screen, adding (via Screen Rant):

We’ll see. I have not heard that from his mouth at all. So I don’t know what that feels like. His career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me. The work, the artistry that he’s done on and off screen. Producing, writing, composing, directing, acting. The body of work is incredible.

While it’s entirely possible the Western icon might be ready to step away after a decades-long tenure in the industry, given his work ethic and previous remarks on the subject, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him continue making movies even at 96.

Back in 2021, when Eastwood was asked about his potential prospects of retiring, the actor simply responded, “I don’t think so” (via Parade). Elaborating on it, the Unforgiven star clarified that he was always thinking about his next project idea, whether it was a movie or a play, adding that he loved movies and enjoyed the process.

I don’t think so. I’m always thinking about what I’m going to do next. I love to take someone’s idea, whether it’s a book or a play, and develop it. Maybe others want to make a few movies and then retire, and that’s fine. Maybe they have other things to do and keep busy with. I don’t. I love movies and I enjoy making them.

Considering many felt Cry Macho would be his swansong, and Eastwood surprised everyone with Juror #2, which garnered acclaimed reviews upon its opening back in 2024, given his career trajectory, you can never rule out the prospect of more Eastwood-driven projects.
