After years of fan demand and endless speculation, Resident Evil Veronica was finally revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026. The ground-up reimagining of the beloved 2000 classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica follows Claire Redfield’s desperate search for her brother, Chris, which leads to her capture by Umbrella Corporation’s forces and imprisonment on the infamous Rockfort Island.

The new remake seems to be leaning more towards horror, showcasing a much more grim and darker atmosphere than Capcom’s original 2000 title. With that said, here’s everything we know about Resident Evil Veronica so far.

Resident Evil Veronica Story Explained

While Resident Evil Veronica’s retains the core narrative of the original game, the way the storyline plays out has been reimagined for the remake, elevated further with modernized gameplay and realistic next-generation visuals powered by Capcom’s RE Engine. The story takes place 3 months after the Raccoon City Outbreak, and having survived the incident, Claire Redfield now travels to France to look for her brother Chris.

The trailer opens with Claire visiting a Parisian apartment to look for Chris. However, things quickly take a dark turn when it’s revealed that he isn’t there and Umbrella Corporation’s special forces unit responsible for the Raccoon City incident capture her. She’s then transported and imprisoned inside the remote Rockfort Island, which has now transformed into a living, breathing nightmare, thanks to another biological outbreak.

The story follows Claire’s desperate attempt to escape the mysterious island, survive the terrifying horrors and find Chris. The trailer didn’t showcase much gameplay, but it offered a new look at the locations players will explore, remade with the RE Engine, and teased side characters that appeared in the beloved classic.

Unlike the original’s fixed camera gameplay, Resident Evil Veronica will feature a third-person gameplay perspective similar to recent titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil: Requiem, despite the reveal trailer opening with a first-person POV of Claire. However, it’s too early to tell whether Capcom will add an option to switch perspectives like they did with Requiem recently.

As we mentioned earlier, the core narrative from the original remains largely the same but events, character interactions, and sequences will unfold differently. If you weren’t aware, the original storyline heavily features Chris and Albert Wesker, along with Claire and it’s unlikely that has been changed for the upcoming remake. However, it seems like Hunk may be involved in some capacity, judging from the Umbrella unit that captures Claire in the trailer.

Resident Evil Veronica Release Date & Platforms

Resident Evil Veronica is confirmed to launch next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. No official date was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026, but we’ll learn more about the game as we inch closer to next year. Capcom has been on a winning streak for some time now, and it’s worth noting that the DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is still in development.

It’s possible that the DLC will arrive before Resident Evil Veronica does, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. The game is now available to wishlist on all platforms via their respective storefronts. Fans of the iconic survival horror franchise have been asking for a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica for a long time and Capcom has finally fulfilled their wishes.

Final Thoughts
