Marvel Rivals Season 8.5’s roadmap has been revealed, featuring a free Groot skin that all players can unlock simply by completing the Shenloong Tournament Event. The new skin, Ironwood Serpent, is based on Groot’s sleek, monstrous blue appearance from the Marvel Rivals Infinity comic and will be a part of the game’s Immortal Weapons theme. Complete the Shenloong Tournament for Groot’s Free Skin in Marvel Rivals
Players can unlock Groot’s Ironwood Serpent skin for free by playing matches, earning XP, and progressing through the Shenloong Tournament Event. This new event begins tomorrow, June 12, at 9:00 AM UTC, and features 12 rewards in total, divided into two pages. The final reward of this event is Groot’s Ironwood Serpent skin.
The event will consist of new Sprays, Gallery Cards, Nameplates and more rewards, and everything can be unlocked for free by consistently playing matches and leveling up your Training Log. Like previous free events featured in Marvel Rivals, Shenloong Tournament also features a progression system tied to XP gain. Based on the event trailer, we can gather that there’ll be a daily XP cap of 7200, limiting how quickly players can advance through the reward tracks.
After unlocking all 12 levels, players will not only obtain Groot’s Ironwood Serpent skin, but also the entire bundle for free, which includes an MVP Animation, Emote, Nameplate, and Spray. Since it’s an Epic skin, his Ultimate Ability will not have a special VFX. But once Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 launches tomorrow, all players can begin playing matches and progressing through the Shenloong Tournament event to acquire Groot’s new look.
When Does the Shenloong Tournament Event End in Marvel Rivals?
The Shenloong Tournament Event in Marvel Rivals from June 12, 9:00 AM UTC to July 10, 8:59 AM UTC, which is also the day Season 9.0 will officially launch, adding the 52nd playable character to the roster, rumored to be either The Hood or Jubilee, depending on who arrives first. So, players have around a month to progress through the Shenloong Tournament’s Training Log and obtain Groot’s free Ironwood Serpent skin and bundle.
While the daily cap will restrict progression slightly, you’ll still be able to level up very quickly if you consistently play Quick Matches as opposed to Practice vs. AI, as the latter doesn’t offer much XP. Alternatively, if the Blood Hunt PvE Mode counts towards event progression, then it’s one of the best modes to grind, offering high XP in a short time, thanks to its fast matches.
Apart from the free Groot skin, Marvel Rivals’ Season 8.5 roadmap also revealed a new event called the X-Press Juice, which will reward players with limited-time Units that they can spend on any outfit currently available in the Store. So, there’s plenty of free things to look forward to in the hero shooter, starting from tomorrow.
